Day 7, December 10, 7:03 a.m.

I learned something fascinating today: As we move toward the winter solstice, here in the Chathams, we have already had our earliest sunset. It was in fact yesterday. Today the sun set 3 seconds later than yesterday. But isn’t the shortest day of the year yet to come? It is. Which means the mornings are going to become darker and darker as first light, the sunrise, and sunup get later and later. So please disregard everything I said a few days ago about there being more light in a winter morning than I expected there to be! Apparently the darkest mornings are yet to come, but knowing this ahead of time makes it actually pretty cool. I’m looking forward to walking through this and seeing what there is to be seen. (I’ll post the science in my stories if you’re curious).

My walk today was short and fast as I had to be back in time to head to PT for my back. The entire time I could hear a train somewhere nearby, but I never saw it. The trains remind me of living near the Hudson in Manhattan. I always loved hearing the boats and tugs blowing their horns, probably because it reminded me of the trains of my youth here. It’s funny the imprints our homes make on our soul, and it’s curious to be able to walk through our own histories. It makes me excited to go back to the city someday and live in both my present and my past again. #MeetingMorning
